Uinta
Brewing was established in 1993 to produce fresh, full-flavored
beers for distribution. Named after Utah’s highest mountain
range, Uinta was the first distributing craft brewed brewery in
Salt Lake City.
At the time, no other brewery was concentrating on supplying the
demands of Utah’s many pubs and restaurants. Our brews quickly
gained a strong following.
The requests for bottled beer became louder and more frequent.
In 1996, Uinta began to bottle its award-winning beers and quickly
grew to become the largest craft brewery in Utah. In 2006, Uinta
produced over 17,000 barrels. Cutthroat Pale Ale, Uinta’s
flagship brand, is now the number one selling craft beer in the
state. Uinta Brewing Company is now one of the top 50 volume producing craft breweries in the USA.
Uinta moved into a new facility in 2001. The 26,000 square foot
brewery is located in the southwest section of Salt Lake City at
1722 South Fremont Drive (2375 West) and is open for tours and tastings
weekdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Please call ahead to check for tour availability so we can accommodate you or your group.
Uinta
Brewing is 100% wind powered, preventing the release of 888,000 lbs (444 tons)
of carbon dioxide a year. It is the equivalent of planting 174 acres
of trees (87,180 trees) annually or not driving 951,270 miles. Uinta believes in
reducing its impact on the environment by using renewable energy.
In addition to being committed to improving Utah’s air quality,
Uinta re-uses six pack carriers offering its patrons Uinta merchandise
as incentives to return the carriers. Spent grain is donated to
local ranchers further reducing waste taken to the landfills. In
addition, the building was built with energy efficiency and conservation
in mind.
Uinta
sells growlers and bottled beer to go so that one may enjoy delicious
beers at home. The on-site Brewhouse Tavern allows patrons to enjoy
freshly brewed beers on tap while having lunch and watching the
brewing process. The Brewhouse Tavern, open Monday through Friday
from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., offers its guests a comfortable setting
and is available for private parties. Lunch is served weekdays from
11 a.m. to 3 p.m..
The brewery is designed to house the latest in brewing technology.
A Krones bottling line, highly reputable within the industry, is
used to bottle beer at its peak of freshness. Uinta’s lab
is equipped with Utah’s only Anton Paar Beer Analyzer, an
instrument used to determine the exact alcohol content of a beverage.
In addition, the brewery acquired a 40-barrel brewhouse and uses
customized stainless steel tanks to further ensure the quality of
Uinta’s complete line of beers.
Uinta Brewing Company’s employees’ passion for the
outdoors has carried over to the products. Uinta currently has six
full-time beers including Cutthroat Pale Ale, King’s Peak
Porter, Golden Spike Hefeweizen, Uinta Club Pilsner, Bristlecone
Brown Ale, and India Pale Ale. In choosing names for its beers,
Uinta draws from Utah’s landscapes and historical heritage.
Uinta produces a barley wine annually in limited quantities. Each
beer is brewed only with four ingredients: barley, hops, water and
yeast. Uinta does not use adjuncts or anything artificial. Uinta’s
uncompromising commitment to using the best of each ingredient ensures
fresh beer with unbeatable flavor. We mark each bottle with a “best
by” date so consumers may track freshness.

The advertising campaign reflects an appreciation for Utah as a
unique and dramatic place to live. Slogans such as “Keeping
Utah the way we found it—except with beer” and “Improving
Utah’s Environment—Starting with the Beer” have
received awards from the advertising world while reiterating Uinta’s
belief that Utah is a great place to live. Uinta has also used “Save
Water—Drink Beer” for comical relief during a heavily
publicized drought. Uinta, however, realizes the importance of water
conservation and has reduced the number of days spent watering the
lawn in its efforts to conserve water.

Uinta Brewing Company adopted a grass-roots approach to selling
beer from the beginning. Word of Uinta’s commitment to quality
products was spread through community events and sponsorships, such
as SPLORE, Make a Wish Foundation, and Ronald McDonald House to
name a few.
Uinta Brewing Company is an involved partner in the community and
is proud to support so many worthy organizations.
Uinta Brewing Company’s first decade has been about (and
will continue to be about) brewing the best beer possible. During
the journey, Uinta embraced practices to keep Utah’s air cleaner,
to be a committed partner in the community ,and to celebrate living
in Utah. Uinta would like to thank its supporters for a great ten
years and to thank you for visiting our website.
